When, where, and how you want
Depositing a big amount of cash that is $10,000 or more means your bank or credit union will report it to the federal government. The $10,000 threshold was created as part of the Bank Secrecy Act. Deposits into a money market account are time deposits because the bank can require six days’ notice for withdrawals, although few banks do this. A money market account’s main advantage is that it features a higher interest rate than a typical savings account.
